The Fire Island Pines Fire Corps was established in July of 2006. Initially, they started out with a small group of 5 individuals; they now boast an active membership of 18. Activities they have taken on include preparing Saturday breakfast for Fire Department members before their membership meeting and drill; organizing and cleaning out file room, stock room, and the equipment rooms, operate the Thursday night community “Bingo” fund raising; assisted in putting together firefighter Policy and Standard Operating Guideline Manuals; providing water and soft drinks for firefighters during structural fires; assisting the Chief with administrative paper work, and are willing to help with anything to allow our firefighters to focus on education and training programs and drills in order to enhance their fire protection skills. In 2009 a few members of the Corps will receive training as Fire Police and assist with traffic and crowd control at all alarm locations. In 2008 Fire Corps members logged a combined total of 400+ hours. They again participated in the First Aid/CPR course. Their fundraising in 2008 set a goal of $5,000.00 which they would use to purchase a new flag pole for the Fire Department which is celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2009. The flag pole is due to arrive in February 2009 with installation to take place soon after. They have become an invaluable resource to our Fire Department and are grateful for their continued support. New members are always welcome!
